Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Your exciting 3-day safari to Lake Mburo National Park begins with an early morning departure from Kampala. After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or preferred pickup location at around 7:00 AM. The journey to the park takes approximately 4–5 hours, covering a distance of about 240 km.

Stopover at the Equator

About 80 km from Kampala, you will have a brief stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe. This is a fantastic opportunity to take photographs while standing in both the northern and southern hemispheres. You can also participate in a water experiment that demonstrates the Coriolis effect, which shows the different rotational directions of water in each hemisphere. Additionally, you may explore souvenir shops that sell Ugandan crafts, paintings, and cultural artifacts.

Arrival and Check-in

Upon arrival at Lake Mburo National Park, you will proceed to your lodge for check-in and lunch. There are various accommodation options ranging from luxury to budget, including Mihingo Lodge, Rwakobo Rock, and Eagle’s Nest. After lunch and some relaxation, you will embark on an evening game drive.

Evening Game Drive

The evening game drive offers a great opportunity to spot wildlife as they become more active when temperatures cool down. You will have the chance to see zebras, impalas, elands, waterbucks, buffaloes, and, if lucky, a leopard. Lake Mburo is the only national park in Uganda where you can find impalas, making it a unique destination for wildlife viewing. After the game drive, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise 

Morning Game Drive

The second day begins with an early morning breakfast before setting out on another thrilling game drive. Morning hours provide the best wildlife sightings as animals are most active during this time. The drive will take you through different park trails, including the Kazuma and Zebra Tracks, where you are likely to see large herds of zebras, topis, giraffes, and elands. The savannah scenery, with rolling hills and acacia woodlands, creates a beautiful backdrop for photography. You may also spot various bird species such as the crested francolin, lilac-breasted roller, and the rare shoebill stork.

Mid-Morning Walking Safari (Optional)

Return to the Lodge and Lunch

After an exciting morning, you will return to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch and some relaxation before embarking on a boat cruise in the afternoon.

Afternoon Boat Cruise on Lake Mburo

A boat cruise on Lake Mburo is a highlight of the trip, offering an up-close experience with aquatic wildlife. As you glide across the calm waters, you will spot hippos, crocodiles, and various water birds, including kingfishers, herons, and fish eagles. The scenic landscape, with lush green shores and papyrus reeds, enhances the beauty of the experience. The boat ride lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, after which you will return to the lodge for an evening at leisure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer Back to Kampala

Morning Breakfast and Departure

On the final day of your safari, you will have an early breakfast before checking out of your lodge. If time permits, you may have a brief morning nature walk to appreciate the serenity of the park one last time.

Scenic Drive Back to Kampala

The return journey to Kampala will take approximately 4–5 hours, providing another opportunity to admire Uganda’s picturesque countryside. Along the way, you can make stops for photography, buying fresh fruits from roadside markets, or visiting craft shops.

Arrival in Kampala

You will arrive in Kampala in the afternoon, concluding your 3-day safari to Lake Mburo National Park. The driver will drop you off at your preferred location, whether it be your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for those catching a flight.
